JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The African American Studies Department at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor (to be filled at the rank of Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor), to start Fall 2022. The position is for a one year (36-week/standard academic year), non-tenure-track, limited-term appointment.
An ideal candidate will be able to teach a range of undergraduate courses on the African American experience, including history, culture, politics, religion, and thought. Experience teaching courses focused on women and gender is preferred. The teaching load is two courses per semester (fall and spring). Candidates must have an excellent research record and agenda, and successful teaching experience at all levels. Rank will be determined based on education and experience. The possibility of teaching a graduate course is contingent on the acceptance of the Graduate School.
A Ph.D. with a focus in an African American studies-related field including Political Science, English, History, Philosophy, women/gender/sexuality studies and other fields in the humanities and social sciences is required prior to the effective date of hire. The successful candidate must have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe how they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
